Font sizes onsite -- need some work

2008-09-04

Many texts here are hard to read due to the exceptionally small font size.  Sure, I can enlarge them to a more readable size, but then the page gets a horizontal scrollbar.  Please normalize the fonts to a 9pt-11pt web-friendly font (such as verdana or other sans-serif font).  Would be apprecaited.

Anyone out there?

I don't have a problem with the font size - yeah, it's very small in the posting area (here), but it's better once posted.  On my system it does show up in a sans serif font.  Maybe it's an advantage of having an older browser :-)

I guess using an outdated browser is a viable solution -- if one can overlook the security implications and lose out on some of the interactivity of Web 2.0.  ;)

Yes, the font shows as sans-serif for me also, but it's simply too small -- looks like an 8pt arial -- so it's also squished together too tightly.  To solve for this, I simply enlarged the fonts -- but this jacks all the ads off the page -- something admins probably would like to avoid.  It forces me to change font sizes everytime I come here, something rarely required since the early days of the web.  Of course, this also leads to a horizontal scrollbar.  And all this takes away something from the user experience.

One other point that needs attention (IMHO) is with the login.  The site does not (optionally) keep us perpetually logged in -- and after login, one should logically be redirected to the page where they came from.

I guess it's another advantage of being an out of date "oldie".  Anyone else having problems with the login or the font sizes?

No problems for me!

The login redirect has been fixed -- still no option to stay logged in, though.

lol, ten -- opening up security holes is an advantage only to script kiddies and malicious websters.  I guess you might as well be using internet explorer, too!  ;)

Also -- how to track forum activity?  An email should be (optionally) sent when there's activity on a thread in which you started/participated.  This brings people back to the site.  The times that I've been here, if there's something in the 5 entries on the homepage that i recognize, then I look/reply -- otherwise, I will not usually see it again.  This thread is a prime example...

We appreciate all the input on the site.  If and when you do find an issue, please be specific when describing the issues so when can work to fix the problems.

Thanks everyone for participating!
