Windmills

honestly I love the view of the windtowers. I traveled through there earlier this summer and found them to be breathtaking. Although the area may not see a lot of the positives of them because some of the power is benefiting other areas, I think we need to see the bigger picture and realize it's a eco-friendly form of power and by our area doing our bit to help I think is a great thing. I also read somewhere, although I can't remember where, that our area has the highest amount of wind towers and are producing the most power than any other area in the country. I think we should be proud.

Another point about the wind towers: My fiance just mentioned to me that the new field being put up in I believe Altona is going to partially benefit our area...

Wind is a sound, low initial investment source of alternative energy. This is why TB Pickens is planning a 4,000,000,000 watt windfarm in Texas. It should prove to be an enlightening development, as he is looking to erect the largest vertical Savionis rotors ever, sitting on magnetic bearings for durability and efficiency.

Wonderful - and proud.  We should be proud martyrs in our contribution to the greater good . . .

(sorry the dripping sarcasm doesn't come through the typed word . . . )

Wind energy benefits the earth and environment; I would happily give up some skyline in exchange for a renewable (and extremely clean) energy source.  Sending the energy out of the area makes no difference to me -- any power sent to, say, a large city, is that much less (dirty) energy that will have to be produced there.  I see the benefit in that.  Some might complain that they ruin the scenery -- well, so does smog and pollution, frankly.

I have taken many photos of the wind turbines -- at distance as well as feet away -- and I must say, they make far less noise than the anti-windpower folks. =)

I'm not against windpower, whether it serves here or there, but there's just something very unnatural about them, and very unsettling about the quantity of them and the vast amount of space they take up.  I don't believe they are as efficient as their size and space consumption would imply.

Your characterization of the windmills being unnatural is subjective.  While they may not be naturally occurring structures, it is definitely a natural progression to realize we screwed up and to try to fix things.  Virtually everything about mankind is unnatural...(which is one of the reasons why the label "Natural" makes something cost more).  Extremely unnatural is the continued creation of dirty energy.  The wind turbines are no more natural than a nuclear power plant, but are extremely more aesthetic than smog and pollution and smoke-stacks, in my opinion.  I'm glad to see the world waking up to renewable energy.

On the other hand, perhaps tomorrow's experiment to recreate the birth of the universe with the Large Hadron Collider will make none of this an issue as we are devoured by a resulting black hole.

Ten, you say the turbines take up a lot of space, but they are nothing compared to how big some oil refineries are and how much space they take up... Have you ever seen a refinery up close?

I just hope they don't start to replace the trees . . .
